About the Event
"Welcome, fools, you have come of your own free will..."
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its release, Hellebore and South West Silents will be hosting a special screening of the beloved folk horror juggernaut The Wicker Man (1973). The film will be introduced by Professor Ronald Hutton, the leading authority on the history of paganism and witchcraft.
The Singalong-a-Wickerman, hosted by Dr David Bramwell and Eliza Skelton, is a participatory experience where every guest will receive a goodie bag full of arcane items to use during the screening. (N. B: For health and safety reasons, no wicker man effigies will be burnt during the event.)
Maria J Pérez Cuervo, founder and editor of HELLEBORE, will introduce The Witches (1966), reclaiming its place next to the Unholy Trinity of folk horror. In this lesser-known Hammer film, starring Joan Fontaine and Kay Walsh, a quaint English town is prey to the forces of darkness.
There’ll be a prize for the best folk horror fancy dress in the audience, to be revealed at the end of the event. Special HELLEBORE merch will be available at the vestibule.
Book now to avoid disappointment—this event is likely to sell out very quickly!
